Plano virtualbackpackCommunity Unit School district is proud to present our "Virtual Backpack" for distributing information from non-profit organizations, intergovernmental agencies and business partners. Approved flyers from these organizations will now be available from the district website. This will not replace all paper items sent home with our students, but it will help reduce the amount.

Any organizations that wish to submit information to the Virtual Backpack may do so by emailing a PDF to Plano Community Unit School District #88 at Please include a contact name, phone number, requested dates of posting, title for the backpack listing, grade level, and any other pertinent information regarding the posting.

General Information for Our Families

  • Free Citizenship Classes - Multi-level English and Spanish classes.  Tuesdays, September 10-November 26 from 6-8:30 PM at United Church of Sandwich.

  • Spirit Cheerleading - Two sessions per school year, includes uniform, for grades PK-8.  Low cost and commitment, only one day per week.  Register at

  • Lyon Farm in YorkvilleEach year the Kendall County Historical Society holds special events at the Lyon Farm which draw visitors from all over. The farm is only open to the public during these special events, but if you are interested in using the farm on other dates please contact them for more information.

  • Family Focus offers an after-school program for students in grade 9-12 at Plano High School.  The program offers homework help, enrichment activities, teambuilding, field trips, college visits, community service projects, archery club, photography projects, a light dinner and more!  Forms are available at Plano High School or contact Violet Flores.  Click here for the English flier and here for the Spanish flier.
  • Parents and students are invited to check out Frankie's Guide to Fire Safety at for fire safety tools, potential hazards in your home, a safety quiz, tips on preparing your own fire safety plan for your home and more important information.  Click here for a NEW resource that provides a visual description of the typical timeline of a house fire. It shows how quickly a fire spreads and how much time a typical family has to evacuate from the moment a fire ignites. The timeline delves further into the leading causes of home fires as well as the percentage of homes that had an operable smoke alarm when a home fire fatality occurred. Check out this link that serves as a necessary reminder of how important it is to have your home equipped with all necessary fire prevention equipment and to have an evacuation plan in effect.



  • 4-H Kendall County Kickoff - Thursday, October 10 from 6-7:30 PM at Kendall County Fairgrounds.  Learn about programs from ages 5-7 & 8-18.  Do fun, hands-on activities, meet 4-H club leaders and staff.  More info at
  • The Nightmare Before Sandwich - Friday, October 11 at 7:00 PM at Sandwich Opera House.  A one-night only, family-friendly singalong screening event.  Dress-up is welcome!  Purchase tickets online at
  • Farnsworth Family Day - Saturday, October 19 from 10 AM-3 PM.  Experience the autumn colors of Dr. Edith Farnsworth's riverside property on their wooded walking paths, while participating in exciting, hands-on STEM activities!  Make s'mores with Boy Scout Troop 40 and try their new Scavenger Hunt!  To purchase tickets visits
  • Bluegrass and Barbecue - Saturday, October 19 from 12-4 PM.  Free, family friendly afternoon, sponsored by Yorkville Christian High School, with activities for all ages.  Featuring Foggy Mem'ry Boys at 2 PM and Brandy's Cool Car Show from 12-4 PM.  More info at
  • Halloween on the Farm - Sundays, October 20 & 27 from 1-4 PM at Lyon Farm in Yorkville.  There will be old fashioned games and trick or treating for the kids.  There will be a costume parade and prizes will be awarded.  Hayrides will take guests through the haunted barn.
  • Trunk or Treat - Sunday, October 27 from 1-3 PM.  The parking lots at James and Clark Streets (First Lutheran and Methodist churches) will be full of decorated trunks and children through 6th grade are invited to go from car trunk to car trunk to collect treats and play games.  There will be a photo booth, jump house and concessions.  All are welcome to dress in costume and enjoy this safe, friendly and fun time!
  • Candypalooza - Wednesday, October 30 from 6:30-8:30 PM.  Inflatables, carnival games and candy!  More info at
