Electronic Network Access Policy 6.235-AP1

Our School District has the ability to enhance your child’s education through the use of electronic networks, including the Internet. Our goal in providing this service is to promote educational excellence by facilitating resource sharing, innovation, and communication.

The District filters access to materials that may be defamatory, inaccurate, offensive, or otherwise inappropriate in the school setting. If a filter has been disabled or malfunctions it is impossible to control all material and a user may discover inappropriate material. Ultimately, parents/guardians are responsible for setting and conveying the standards that their child should follow, and the School District respects each family’s right to decide whether or not to authorize Internet access.

With this educational opportunity also comes responsibility. The use of inappropriate material or language, or violation of copyright laws, may result in the loss of the privilege to use this resource. Remember that you are legally responsible for your child’s actions.

Random Drug Testing - Plano Middle and High School Students Only

Plano Middle School, Plano High School, and Plano Community Unit School District #88 recognize that, nationally, alcohol and drug abuse by students has reached epidemic proportions. We also recognize that some Plano students who participate in extracurricular/voluntary activities have used and/or will experiment with alcohol, tobacco, and/or illegal drugs during their school years. Participants in extracurricular/voluntary activities who use illegal substances can be a danger to themselves and to others both in and out of the extracurricular activity.

In an effort to insure the health and safety of all extracurricular participants, to provide a legitimate reason for students to say “NO” to drug and alcohol use, and to provide assistance, resources, and support to those students who may be taking drugs, Plano Middle School along with Plano High School will conduct random drug testing for students involved in extracurricular/voluntary activities. This program is not designed to be punitive. It is designed to prevent drug, alcohol, and tobacco use; to educate students who are extracurricular/voluntary participants about the physical, mental, and emotional harm caused by drug, alcohol and tobacco use/abuse; to create and maintain a safe and drug-free environment for all students; and to assist students who are using drugs/alcohol in getting help when needed.

Please download the Parent Letters, School Policy, the District's Extracurricular Code Agreement, and Midwest Consent Form for more information.
