Science Club West Nile Virus

November 18, 2015
Lauren Belville of the Kendall County Health Department visited with Science Club last Tuesday. She answered many questions about tick and mosquito carried diseases. She showed students maps of the West Nile Virus sites in the area, a mosquito collection device, and how to identify different species of mosquitos. Lauren gave great insight into the day to day life of her job as an environmental health scientist. We are thankful for the time she spent with the science club. The science club continues to provide students with opportunities to engage active scientists, and practice some of the skills useful in careers in science fields. Next up, subatomic particle detectors. We plan to observe incredibly small particles in cloud chambers, that the students will construct and use! (Muons, and other tiny particles)
