Plano Middle School “Enchanted” by Enchanted Backpack!

By a stroke of luck and a bit of perseverance.....

After hearing about a non-for-profit, Enchanted Backpack based out of Chicago (, Plano Middle School took the chance to apply the school for the program and qualified for upwards to $40,000 worth of needed school supplies and other necessities that will benefit not only Plano Middle School, but the entire school district and community.

The organization delivered a multitude of items from school supplies, books, games, gym equipment, to soft goods such as coats, hats, mittens, and shoes to Plano Middle School on May 9.

Following is information about the organization:

Founded in 2017, Enchanted Backpack is a 501(c)(3) organization serving under-resourced elementary and middle schools and child-focused organizations in the Chicagoland area. Founded by corporate and civic leader, Carol Lavin Bernick, and her family, the organization delivers brand-new school supplies, clothing essentials, books, recess equipment and more to support students and teachers. Each year, Enchanted Backpack will touch the hearts and minds of at least 20,000 students.

Enchanted Backpack helps alleviate the financial burden many teachers and families feel to purchase school supplies.

To date, 37,800 students and 2,300 full-time classroom teachers have benefitted from Enchanted Backpack. Approximately 1,200 schools meet Enchanted Backpack’s threshold of more than 50 percent of students (pre-kindergarten through 8th grade) receiving free/reduced lunch through the National School Lunch Program.
