PH Miller School Hosts November Board Meeting

November 27, 2018

The November meeting of the Plano School Board was held at PH Miller School. Principal Laurel Mateyka welcomed everyone to the building, introduced new teachers and staff and celebrated the achievements of the preschool team. After the meeting, Mrs. Mateyka gave a tour of the building.

Proclamations were read for Board Members Day and American Education Week and Plano Youth Tackle Football representatives thanked the Board for their support and presented trophies to be displayed at the school buildings.

During the Board meeting, Assistant Superintendent Dr. Tracy Thurwanger and Instructional Coach Pam Reilly discussed their recent trip to China with the College Board's Chinese Bridge Delegation.  The week-long program in China is designed to help educators strengthen cultural and educational understanding of Chinese programs and partnerships. As delegates, they participated in school visits, cultural activities and educational workshops.  Dr. Thurwanger and Mrs. Reilly worked collaboratively to complete a comprehensive application which was reviewed by the College Board and they were chosen to join the delegation of 200 U.S. educational leaders and distinguished members of the College Board and Hanban.  Participation in the delegation brings notoriety and honor to our district in the educational community and allows Plano School District No. 88 to be among a highly selective group of districts leading in networking, partnership, and influence in language and culture education.

Board of Education meetings rotate each month throughout the school district buildings. The community is always invited to Board meetings, which are normally held on the third Monday of the month at 6 PM. Check the district website under "Board of Education" for a listing of the Board meeting dates, locations, agendas and past minutes.
