District 88 Opens NEW Family Resource Center at Methodist Church

January 23, 2019

Plano School District No. 88 and P.H. Miller Elementary School celebrated the Grand Opening of the NEW Plano Family Resource Center on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at the United Methodist Church of Plano. The school district is proud and excited to partner with Pastor Stevan Saunders and the members of his congregation to provide this FREE resource to our community. P.H. Miller Elementary School, Principal Laurel Mateyka, Instructional Coach Brittany Pezold, Family Support Workers Sherri Rachford and Maritza Herrera have been working to prepare the host sight for the brand new "Plano Family Resource Center" since the beginning of the school year and were excited to welcome guests to the grand opening on Wednesday night.

The Plano Family Resource Center will provide an array of resources and services to families in our community including weekly playgroups, parent and family education, a toy and book lending library, books and materials for parents, and information about community resources. As we get to know our families, we will expand our offerings based on their wants and needs. We hope that the Plano Family Resource Center will become a gathering place for our young families. A place where they can meet other adults, learn from experts and one another, access vital information and resources, and connect to the community at large.

Additionally, the P.H. Miller Preschool Program has recently been awarded the Gold Circle of Quality by ISBE, and is the only public preschool program in Kendall County to achieve this recognition. We are proud to offer high quality programs and services to the families in our community and will continue to provide FREE, high quality supports and services in our preschool program and at the NEW Plano Family Resource Center.

We recognize that an achievement like this does not happen without the help and support of many people. Therefore, we want to thank, 75th Dist. State Rep. David Welter, Plano Mayor Robert Hausler, Plano School Dist. Superintendent Tony Baker, United Methodist Aurora Dist. Superintendent Rev. Jeffry Bross, Dr. Amaal Tokars, Asst. State’s Attorney Brenda Karales, Lt. Norm Allison, Plano High School Principal James Seput, Plano High School Assistant Principals Julie Adelmann, and Brennan Denny, KCCFP Chairman Greg Witek, Chamber President Rich Healy, Plano school district staff and faculty, Chamber of Commerce members, families, School Board members, and local business for their continued support and for celebrating with us at the grand opening. We are excited for what the future holds.

We look forward to working with our business partners, community members, elected officials, and, most importantly, our families to provide exactly what Plano families need to prepare children to be healthy, safe, eager to learn, and ready to succeed.
