Board Members Visit Emily Johns School

The December Board of Education meeting was held at Emily G. Johns School.

  • - Principal Luke Baughman highlighted recent events at Emily Johns, including Family Reading Night (Camp Read-a-Lot) and the Veteran's Day celebration.

  • - New staff members were introduced, including Tara Bennett (6th grade teacher), Emily Holmstrom (6th grade teacher) and Carly Smith (Instructional Skills teacher).

  • - Sixth grade teacher Greg Wedesky thanked the Board for their recent technology purchase and said staff and students are very excited to have the availability of Chomebook carts in every home room.

  • - Ashley Ledermann and Leigh Lederman talked about the presentation they led at the recent Teacher Institute Day called HyperDocs. They said teachers throughout the district are using this exciting program as an instructional tool.

  • - Courtney Finnie, Emily Holmstrom, Kayla Osbron and Faith Skinner explained the Peer Collaboration Groups that are being utilized at Centennial & Emily G. Johns Schools. Teachers are observing other classrooms and learning different and better ways to teach certain units, in order to provide students with the best learning experience.

  • - Fifth grade student Miani R. talked about the new program at Emily Johns, called Genius Hour. Genius Hour is an opportunity for students to stay after school to research and experiment on topics of their interest. Miani read an essay about why she thinks the program has helped her gain confidence and increased her interest in school and other special projects. She was awarded with a Super Student medallion for her fine presentation.
