Introduction

You are one of the lucky scientists hired to help the rainforest by learning and sharing with others about one of the many unique and interesting rainforest animals or insects of your choice!

The Task

You will take the selected animal or insect of your choice and complete the following tasks:

1. Create a flip book rainforest animal report. You will be able to share your creation with your Kindergarten Buddy and display them in our rainforest walk way.

2. Build a 3-D likeness of your animal for display.

3. Write a cinquain poem about your animal for display.

The Process

Your first step is to select your animal! Choose one of the many listed here!

howler monkey

hummingbird

red-eyed tree frog

hercules beetle

sloth

macaw

poison arrow frog

blue morpho butterfly

jaguar

harpy eagle

boa constrictor

walking stick

vampire bat

toucan

leaf cutter ant

ocelot

If you are interested in an animal that is not listed above, please see your teacher for approval.

Next, you will need to learn more about your animal.

Please view the following web sites and have your prewrite form ready to take notes!

Now you are ready to create your flip book by using your web notes. Your book should include the following information:

  1. full name of the animal or insect
  2. habitat - Which layer and country do they live in?
  3. food
  4. prey or predator?
  5. interesting or unusual fact

The next step is to make a 3-D likeness of your animal! Please use any of your own art supplies or items from the art station. Your finished project should include the special features or attributes that make your animal unique.

You are now ready to write your cinquain poem! Click on the red eyed tree frog to find a copy of the cinquain form.

Last, it is time for our scientist to share their projects and all of the valuable information learned! Please put your name on the classroom and reading buddy charts. We are anxious to hear what you have learned!
