Learners

This lesson can be used in any primary grade level. The teacher can change it to meet the needs of the students. It is a science lesson; but it can be implemented in math, reading, art, music, and social studies.

Science Standards Addressed

State Goal 11: Understand the processes of scientific inquiry and technological design to investigate questions, conduct experiments and solve problems.

 

State Goal 12: Understand the fundamental concepts, principles and interconnections of the life, physical and earth/space sciences.

 

 



Process

1. First you will be assigned to a group of 3 or 4 students.

2. Then as a class you are to listen to your teacher read aloud Chickens Aren't the Only Ones by Ruth Heller.

3. Do the worksheet that is called "Chicken's Aren't the Only Ones". You can get this worksheet from

4. Fill in table that your teacher will hand out. This will help organize your work. You can get this work sheet from

5. Do the activity "Sizing Up Eggs" as a group. Your teacher will hand out this activity. You can get this worksheet from The Mailbox-Primary-April/May 2001-Key p. 61

7. Each student must print a copy of the Egg Fact Sheet. Click on the picture of the egg to get to that page.

8. After you have filled in the table and finished all activities, put all your work in a folder that your teacher will give you. The teacher can provide any type of folder, or have the students make their own.

9. Pick one of the animals that you will talk about. Each student in your group will talk about one of the animals you researched.
