Plano, Illinois is located on Route 34 approximately 55 miles southwest of Chicago and 15 miles south of I-88 in the Fox River Corridor. Plano is located in Kendall County, the county and Kendall County was recently cited as the second fastest growing county in the United States. Plano has a current population of over 9,000 residents. and growing. There is a variety of residential development currently underway in the Plano community. These developments include single family homes, duplexes, town homes and age restricted communities

Plano boasts a unique combination of agriculture, business and industry. Plano Molding is one of the largest manufacturers of plastic tackle boxes. Menard’s has a distribution center located in Plano.

Plano has a WalMart Superstore and several more shopping centers, medical facilities and recreation areas are nearby, including Silver Springs State Park and Cedardell Golf Club. Valley West Community Hospital is located in nearby Sandwich, Illinois (5 miles) and the nearest regional trauma centers, Provena-Mercy Center Hospital and Rush-Copley Hospital, and are both approximately 20 miles away.

The local YMCA and library offer a variety of activities for all ages year round. Locally sponsored baseball, softball and tackle football leagues offer enjoyment for many boys and girls. Year round programs are also offered for children by the Indian Valley Theater Group, Kendall County Forest Preserve and other agencies.

Cultural events are offered in the area by the Paramount Arts Center in Aurora, Rialto Theater in Joliet, Waubonsee Community College, Joliet Junior College, Aurora University, the Sandwich Opera House and Northern Illinois University in DeKalb. Plano boasts two historic bed and breakfasts. There are eight churches in the community of Plano.

The schools are supported by many local service organizations like the Plano Education Foundation and Community Coalition for Character. Parents in the community have also joined together to form the Plano Parent’s Association, Sports Boosters and Music Boosters, which support the students. The community is also proud of the following volunteer organizations: American Legion, Blue Knights of Illinois, Boys Scouts, Girl Scouts, Golden Harvesters, Illinois Order of Odd Fellows, Plano Junior Women’s Club, Plano Kiwanis Club, Rotary Club of Plano and Sunbeam Masonic Lodge.

Plano was recently selected by Waubonsee Community College as the location for an extension site. Property has been secured just east of Plano and construction is scheduled to begin in 2007 and opening is scheduled for 2010.
